
Dr. Shaun Martin
Senior Post-Doc
Shaun Martin is a cellular biologist studying lysosomal and mitochondrial dynamics and their roles in physiology and diseases, such as neurodegeneration. He graduated as a Master (2007) and PhD (2012) from Newcastle University, England. After a junior postdoctoral fellowship at KU Leuven (2012-2014), he moved into a senior postdoctoral position and became the research manager in the Laboratory of Cellular Transport Systems, KU Leuven.
Shaun holds various responsibilities. As the daily research coordinator of LCTS he guides the PhD students and laboratory research. Since 2016 he has co-managed the Scientific Mixer seminar series within the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. Furthermore he teaches within the advances in molecular biology and frontiers of science courses of the Biomedical Sciences master’s program at KU Leuven.
In his spare time Shaun is an avid aquarist and enjoys exploring the scenery around Leuven on dog walks with his family.
