DR. VERONICK BENOY
Researcher Drug Discovery
Veronick Benoy is a neuroscientist with great interest in drug discovery and innovation in life sciences. Her curiosity towards human diseases and their underlying mechanisms led her to the study of Biomedical Sciences (2006-2011) at the Faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven. She did her Ph.D. in the Laboratory of Neurobiology (Sept 2011 – June 2016), investigating the therapeutic potential of HDAC6 inhibition in several in vitro and in vivo disease models for CMT, encompassing early drug discovery efforts in collaboration with pharmaceutical partners. Because of her interest in identifying & developing new therapeutics for patients, she directed her career further towards drug discovery and gaining more experience in a wide range biochemical and biophysical tools, which are essential for R&D in drug discovery.
Her work at LCTS and Cistim/CD3 bridged fundamental academic research and different drug discovery programs at pharmaceutical companies. This unique position provided her with the opportunity to gain new scientific and technical experience, to be part of a multidisciplinary team of both internal and external collaborators and furthermore, accelerate in project management and engage in strategic planning of new drug discovery efforts.
Outside of work, taking a break from work means going swimming or running and spend quality time with family and friends.
