Prof. Dr. Peter Vangheluwe

At KU Leuven, one of the world’s leading and most innovative universities, I lead a dynamic, international research team dedicated to uncovering new cellular and lysosomal transport systems involved in human disease. Our work combines cutting-edge molecular and cell biology with collaborative approaches, driving discoveries that feed directly into a drug development pipeline for conditions such as heart failure, Parkinson’s disease, and beyond. These efforts are carried out in close partnership with KU Leuven’s Center for Drug Design and Discovery and/or other research institutes and industry partners.
Our groundbreaking research has been featured in top-tier journals including Nature, PNAS, Brain, and EMBO Journal, as well as in videos and press releases highlighting our projects, awards, and discoveries.
Research is my passion but outside the lab, I enjoy hiking, dancing, running, traveling with my family, and, of course, savoring great Belgian beer and chocolate.
We welcome international PhD students and postdocs, several exciting projects are available. We also invite new research questions and collaborations: contact us if you want to explore disease links or mutations involving P-type ATPase genes, develop biochemical assays, or screen for modulators of P-type ATPases.
