Prof. Dr. Peter Vangheluwe

At KU Leuven, a top-ranked and highly innovative university worldwide, I lead a dynamic and international research team with a focus on new cellular and lysosomal transport systems that are implicated in disease. Our molecular and cell biology research is highly innovative and collaborative in nature. Our findings fuel a drug discovery pipeline for heart failure, Parkinson's disease and other diseases, which run in partnership with the Center for Drug Design and Discovery at KU Leuven and major pharmaceutical companies.

Our groundbreaking work has been published in prestigious journals like Nature, PNAS, Brain, and EMBO J, and we have been featured in videos and press releases highlighting our projects, awards, and discoveries.

Research is my passion, but I also enjoy hiking, dancing, running, traveling with my family, and of course great Belgian beer and chocolate

We welcome international PhD students and postdocs: several projects are available. We also welcome new research questions and collaborations: contact us if you want to test new disease links or mutations involving P-type ATPase genes, develop biochemical assays, screen for modulators of P-type ATPases.
